The Nouveau Beauty Group was launched in 1996 by Karen Betts, who, having trained in the ground-breaking art of permanent make-up in America, then brought the treatments back to the UK before pioneering and developing her own techniques. Nouveau Contour was then launched by Karen Betts and her partner Dave Hemingway five years later in 2001 and they began training others who wanted to become permanent make-up artists. Before long, Karen and Dave spotted a number of opportunities in the beauty industry and in 2005 Nouveau Lashes was launched alongside Karen’s fellow leading permanent make-up artist Bridgette Softley. Karen and Bridgette developed Nouveau Lashes, the original and top-of-the-range semi-permanent lash-extensions treatment. This was inspired by their journey in looking for a way to help clients who had lost their natural lashes through chemotherapy or alopecia. Disappointed with what they found, they began working on their own eyelash-extension system and subsequently, put together a training programme that is now considered to be the original and best in the industry. They since have gone onto the launch and develop other Nouveau Lashes brands like LVL Lashes and Let’s Go Lashes.
Not long after that, Karen went into partnership with internationally acclaimed eyebrow stylist Nilam Patel. By combining their business acumen and technical knowledge, Nilam and Karen have developed HD Brows, a brand which offers one of the most sought-after beauty treatments thanks to its long list of celebrity fans on both sides of the Atlantic.
The latest addition to the NBG portfolio is Nouveau Skin Therapy. As Karen operates in both the professional beauty sector and more specialist medical aesthetic industry she sometimes sees emerging technologies surface through the medical related work she undertakes. This is how Karen first came across A-Lift and Dermatude both skin rejuvenation treatments. After out-growing their modest premises in South Elmsall, the Nouveau Beauty Group bought and renovated the hotel next door, turning it into Nouveau House, the company’s current HQ – which now houses 188 members of staff. They also now have four training locations in Yorkshire, Purley, Milton Keynes and Manchester and supply over 5,000 salons across the UK with products, training and services that are undoubtedly some of the best in the industry.
